This was a tough week for some of my friends – many of whom lost their job in a massive layoff at the company I used to work. I was there for 8 years and surely would have been one of those let go if I had stayed, but 3 years ago my old company and I parted ways due to a new manager who decided he didn’t like me. At the time, it was very upsetting, but the friction in the department was the push I needed to spread my wings. I was not the only one who left, and not-so-ironically my former company decided not to renew the manager’s contract. Thankfully, today I am secure in an even higher position at a company that is actually making money in these tough times.
The point is, if that bad experience never happened, I would not be in the better place I am today. That seaming misfortune was actually my fortune.
Here’s another true example… I read about a woman who was in such a hurry to go to the airport she told the cab driver to step on it. She was so engrossed
with her own thoughts that she was not aware that the cab was taking the wrong route.
Suddenly, a man went inside the cab and took her handbag which had all her money as well as her credit cards and passport.
It turns out that the driver was in on the scam and, after he robbed her, left her in the middle of the dark street with no money and no way to get home. She railed against her misfortune and she kept on thinking how unlucky she was to be in that situation.
Needless to say, she missed her flight. Given the nature of this post, I’m sure you can predict that on that very same night, she heard a shocking news that her flight had crashed, killing everyone on board. Tears flowed down her face as the realization hit her. If she did not fall victim to that misfortune, she would have been robbed of something far more precious – her life.
Yes. Bad things really happen and we can’t help feeling bad about them. We are only human. We lose our money, fail our exams, or get rejected by others. There are times when nothing seems to go our way.
So what can we do about it? We can empower ourselves by progressing forward with the consistent faith of a true winner. We can resolve ourselves to the understanding that time will tell how misfortunes can be revealed as benefits.
Don’t waste time and energy on things that can’t be changed. Continuous worrying will only affect your health on the long run, and you’d be doing much more damage to your psyche than was done when the initial misfortune occurred.
Set yourself free. When bad things happen, move onwards with the conviction of a winner knowing that “more will be revealed.”
Live one day at a time. We subject ourselves to uneccesary mental and emotional torture when we worry. Worrying only serves to ruin the only thing we truly ever have – the present moment.
This is the moment to plant positive seeds. Do what must be done at present and the future is guaranteed to be successful – no matter what happens.
Remember… we are working to create a state of life, not a state of circumstances.
